A well-kept secret

Here in the UK we have Town Councils that look after our well-being, you know rubbish removals, street lighting etc. Here where I live, Stockport (near Manchester) in the North West, we have a branch of the Town Council, Stockport Homes who look after Stockport’s housing stock. Part of their responsibility is keeping their tenants/customers happy. This includes cooking and various other things of which the computer is part.  

A well-kept secret

Finding where to learn about the computer especially if you are elderly is a problem. There you are, wanting to learn how to communicate through the computer, but embarrassed enough to not tell those around you, although you know some people even family that seem to be at home working the computer. When you have asked for help they either show you quickly or say that they will show you later, which never come, so even though you are dying to learn just leave it.

Well now you can learn (it probably has been for a while). Stockport Homes has a cause regularly from beginner, learning from switching on your computer working the mouse and then on to much more. This can all be done at Bridgehall Community Centre on Siddington Avenue, Stockport.
View Larger Map If you travel by bus there is a bus stop outside 20 paces and you are in the centre. In the centre there is a room full of computers with a teacher waiting to show you how.

Why did it need to come to this?

Up to now I have tried to solve this behind the scenes.

Why don't these so called masters of the net honor their word?

It is because everything on the internet is governed by numbers.

This is how I see it working; an individual knows their way around the computer and finds it easy to slap together product to offer anyone that looks at their site. With time and research this is honed and improved.

Right from the start they learn the golden rule to selling - "promise a refund if things don't work out".

I have wanted to improve/learn and like so many of us seen and joined programs thinking that I would be able to benefit from the item offered. Most times these offer guarantees have expired. Or the offer isn't taken up.

Every now and again you/me come across "an offer that is too good to miss". In this case it promised a guarantee +, yes 2 guarantees that if offer not met, money will be returned.

Well! I found nothing that was offered in their site of use. The training of newbies is so old that it was impossible to follow, the program that was used when installing WordPress was so old that WordPress no longer made it available. The training program was 4 years old and not up dated.

I have been looking for the site with the offer that I was given -surprise - surprise it has gone so I cannot let you look at the offer for you to decide for yourself.

Let me tell you who has failed to live up to what was promised.

Why did I join their outfit?

They were just down the road, I wanted someone close by thinking it would be an advantage.

I fortunately used my card [fortunately it is Barclaycard] and I have asked them to get the refund. Barclaycard have come back to me and told me that I have to return the books and CD's/DVDs before I can expect a refund. When I pointed out that this outfit didn't reply when I told them that their training books and CD's/DVDs where available to be returned if they wanted them Barclaycard noted this, but suggested I return them anyway.

This is the part that I like: I pointed out that there is a cost in returning these items and was told [everything is recorded with Barclaycard] I could claim the postage.

The books etc. are on their way - which this space.

If for some reason these 2 Neil’s of http://www.internetmarketingreview.com/ feel that I shouldn’t receive a refund and Barclaycard fail to solve this.

My trump card – they and I both live in England and we have laws and courts – Thank England for they introduced the Small Claims Court.

It is a pity that they have decided that I wanted to waste their time; it is not that I didn’t try to download their program

I normally use Google chrome I cannot download your program.
I them used Firefox cannot download or should I say open.
Internet explorer when I downloaded the program, before I knew it there was 59 pages again no download,
I have tried 3 different browsers and still cannot down load this program.

While I would like to download their program it is impossible, yet I have no problem downloading other programs.  I have offered to have a health check done on my computer; this will take a few days to arrange. I'm quite happy to give them the benefit of the doubt.

If I hadn’t let them know that I was putting the problem I was having on my blog, they wouldn’t have moved so fast. I have done nothing that they have not been able to defend.

If you can use this program please do anything that will help is worth using [until you find something better] at this stage I cannot use it

I never ordered it.

The postage is $5.65

That is a lot of money if you multiply that by 100, and if they sent out 1000 it becomes staggering.

Why can’t they come clean and say that there is a charge?

If the product is as good as they say it is then they’ll have no problem marketing it

In my opinion they have an inflated idea that this tool is worth more than it actually is.

This is an appeal for help with my Squidoo

When following the Challenge, Module 3 – Day Using Squidoo They tell you to open an account/page all part of building up those back links. I decided to open mine and called guide-for-a-newnewbie- it need visitors and the visitors to make comments, Why I would appreciate it if you would make a visit comment – this will help me get some squidoo points.

I have opened 2 pages, the second because I wanted to put an item up prepared it then tried to add it to my blog and couldn’t put picture on the page [I hadn't worked it out how to overcome that problem] so squidoo was the quickest, please look at

Manchester City win the FA CUP 1 - 0

Manchester City played Stoke in the FA cup final. City won 1 – 0. 

Their first silverware in 35 years,

To celebrate there is an open top bus tour on the 23^rd of may 6.30 pm

City have the money stand by world they are on the up.

Essential help available for newbies and not so newnewbies,

I had my computer infected by some virus that we couldn’t shift; the result was I had to reload my computer with the factory setting. You know what that meant     - save everything you want and then start again, the trouble is that although you have saved all this information looking for whatever is another story. In my case it was a lot worse because although I saved files some I couldn’t open.

In about 2008 I was having problems with my computer which needed sorting out by someone who knew a lot more than myself how the computer worked, and like all things you ask around get in someone that is recommended to you.  I got someone that was good at fixing computers to look at my computer, the trouble was he had other people as well to see and so had to wait up to 3 or 4 days and then he took more than a couple of hours. Hours cost a lot of money; a visit was never less than £120.00 + VAT. Like all problems they come more often then you realize.

While this was happening I came across an offer that BT [British Telecom] had and that was they would come into my computer and look around fix the problem with no waiting time 7 days a week 365 days a year and at about £96.00 a year [under £9.00 a month]. Well I joined them, in those days it was a lot harder but a big saving

·         I needed to scan a document, I have everything but because of the virus and the resetting of my computer I was unable to connect so I phoned Home IT Support, 08000321118 and got put through to a technician who came into my computer  and looked around collected all the drivers and patches etc, and got everything working. This is possibly the best service that is available in the UK for anyone that has difficulties with their computer

learning to download photos a easier way.

Since I started to blog I have been carrying my camera and have taken more pictures in this short time than I have before. The problem has been to get them down to a size that I can download them and reproduce them on the blog.

What I used to do if there was a problem was to email the picture to myself them, here I could make the picture smaller, then copy that picture back to the file with a new name, then transfer that new picture to the blog. If there is a hard way to do something [trust me]I’ll find it.

I get/collect my emails through http://uk.mg.bt.mail.yahoo.com and have found under Applications – Edit Photos. This is easier and there is a re-size button and I just have to size 1 side and it does the rest these 2 are some of what I did earlier.

This newnewbie is having problem getting an AdSese ID

I still can’t get an AdSense ID but I have made some progress I have managed to send  a questioner  to Google AdSense Help desk

I can get past the first page when applying for my AdSense ID

Then when I [following instruction] submit a email the following comes up:-

A user with the email you specified already exists 
Please select a different Google Account login to access this account.

1] I have then re submitted with a new email address It is accepted only to be declined because there is a connection somewhere

2] how do I apply for an ID on the blog that I have developed. All email addresses that have been declined are mine.

3] I cannot find old emails as they have been deleted, the computer has been reset because  it was infected with a virus.

4] what is the easiest way to open an ID bearing in mind that I would like to some how use http://www.newnewbie.com as this is the only site that is up and running

5] I do have another blog but that is inactive will that be any good? 

6] Google have made me open colvee@btinternet.com col2lin@gmail.com  clnlnnrd20@gmail.com  colin@newnewbie.com & col1lin@newnwebie.com that is 5 emails.

7] Google wants me to open another only to be told that there will be a problem.

8] Help; please tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this problem

The joy of being a newbie

I have been trying to get that AdSecse ID. Google are great so long as you get it right, wow be tide if you get it wrong. I have been turned down for not having the correct email address, it’s like 20 questions. I hope that I get there before I give up. As a last resort I am hoping that “I no longer have access to my original AdSense account” will solve my problems

Today has been a hard day first I have been trying to get an AdSense account; it should have been relatively easy. I bet there are many like me who have been on the net for some years and looked at this or that opened accounts here there and everywhere. Thought nothing of it only to have these old accounts come back and haunt you when at a later stage you apply for a new account only to be told that someone else has already got that address – that is what happened with Google AdSense.

I have got to the end of The Challenge and now I have to decide what I am going to do this is the hard part, a friend is helping me by going through what I want -It

How to make a newbie harder to catch out – for Knowledge there is no substitute

Remember we newbie we ARE the fish

“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a meal, teach him to fish and he will eat for a lifetime”

This is exploited more than you have ever given thought. Although I haven’t given it word for word as found in the good book, this is a well used Christian saying, and preached when ever teaching and they want you to start bettering yourself.

A lot of users of this phrase believe in it, however there are a lot more that who use it to their advantage, and like the ones that are being taught also have to eat and the ones learning become the fish and the teacher becomes the fisherman.

On the internet the pond is extensive, and the fish many. Both the fishermen and fish are unknown to each other; both are taught that there are riches in this pond.

How, where or when depends on circumstances, some fish learn quickly and become fisherman and then are out looking for a spot to fish, while some fish never learn – here I would like you be smarter

 

Before you take the bait

If you carry out the following you will keep your money in your pocket longer, above all you will have leant and become a wiser fish.

·         Do you need what you are looking at?

·         Do you just want it?

·         Is it necessary?

·         Will you use it?

o   Do you need to use it?

§  Are there any bonuses?

§  Are they any use?

§  Will you use any of them?

Referendum Day Here in the UK

The time has come for the Great English public to decide whether we want to change the way we select our MP’s for the House of Commons.

At present the UK uses the “first past the post” system. Should the “alternative vote” system?

 

We have to decide whether we want 1 vote for 1 person once or whether we want to vote for someone that gets 50%+ of the vote, If this doesn’t happen the last person is removed and those votes are reallocated until the 1 that is selected has 50%+.

The way I understand the alternative vote system, is that if you vote for a strong candidate and I vote for a plonker + others. As my plonker comes last his 2^nd votes are then reallocated which means that I have 2 bites at the cherry.

 It is too complicated so for me the best thing is stay as we are.

Marketers Mistakes

I was a gamer/am a gamer.

I’m doing The Challenge game.

At this stage my site isn’t up to much, it need so much doing to it, you may ask why? It’s because at this stage the bricks that I’m using aren’t out of the box that can fix or make what I want.

I have looked at it this way; either I start building or I think about it. I have taken the latter

When I started this game, yes I could click on this or that, but I didn’t know why things happened.

Unfortunately I have a handicap, however I do believe that when the Good Lord takes away he also gives, the thing is finding that what is given [it isn’t always easy to find] In my case it is the spell check and Google dictionary

The computer is my second best friend and I do spend a lot of time with it - so finding a game that can keep my interest is what matters

Back to The Challenge game.

What is the end game - To be recognized.

Well I have followed the prompts not always understanding but with perseverance, I have managed to build.

The joy that I have got from looking at the results has been unbelievable

Looking at Google Analytics this has been possibly the biggest morale booster.

Just seeing all those  line going up, the pie chart with all those different slices and colors.

At this stage it is a bit like looking at pictures with captions in Latin.

 

We do spend a lot of time looking at other peoples sites with a bit of “I’d like that” not realizing that other are looking at ours.

Very temped to join their set-up, which I have done fortunately I’ve seen the error of my ways and realized that these offers will be there when I am better [dear I say] qualified.

For me the secret is to do/play The Challenge game and avoid temptation. Please if you are looking at this for the first time and haven't looked at the best training that you will ever get - do it now!!!

When I was accepted by PayDotCom I was offed an 85% saving

Now I wasn't looking for a saving

Have you ever thought what 85% of nothing is = nothing

This is where there big money earners live in cloud cuckoo land

I was offered $15000 worth  of downloads (that is what he said it was worth) I was only given 1 chance so I might have the figure a wee bit out, but it is close enough.
All old downloads that work but out of date - obsolescent!

 All for only $97
 
As I didn't want it in the first place.

The fact that I would never use all what is/was on offer.

Where is the saving?

This is an expense!

This is the best part!

 I declined the offer and he came back surprised especially as I didn't take up the 85% saving that I didn't want.

To save face I was offered an other deal this time $3000 worth of downloads and he withheld some items that I didn't want

 but for $47

 I could have these other obsolescent downloads -
again should I have bought it would be a cost not a saving,
This is the question?
Who's interests did he have at heart

                    

Can I point out to those of you that offer a saving, that, a saving is only a saving if the item that is on offer is that I want to buy e.g. TrafficGrag is reduced from $79.95 to ?? that is a saving The fact that it is full of information that someone else would ask more for is beside the point - That is a bargain!!
